So this is it. We did it. We bought a house.
We decided, as home buying virgins, to not use a realtor. Smart huh? It took about 3 months from offer to move in, and we were clueless the whole time, but we made it through. Were we crazy to go it alone? Maybe.
Our “new house”, built in 1958, is a mid-century gem in Durham, North Carolina. We love, love, love, love, love this house. Yeah that’s a lotta love. We love it so much that we were able to look past the foundation problems, and the outdated kitchen and bathroom.
We also have no central air (We will let you know how that works out around July), and did we mention our flat roof holds water every time it rains?
Are we crazy to love this house? Maybe.
On the other hand, we have tons of shade and privacy on a great piece of property that is nestled in the woods.
The house has energy efficient radiant heating in the floor.
Also, our dog Sketch is super stoked to not be cooped up in a sixth floor apartment anymore.
Overall, we are super excited to take on projects that we have been wanting to do, but couldn’t in a rental. We have a huge list (we love our lists) of small and large projects that grows by the day. Did we forget to mention that we have no experience in home renovation? Are we crazy to do this? I guess we’ll find out.
