Here it is… Our mix-matched bedroom. Pretty bad huh? We bought the rug for a steal at HomeGoods and unfortunately the rest of the room didn’t immediately fall in line.
The wall color is called Amazing Gray, and ironically its the least amazing color in our house. The former owners used it in the master bedroom, guest bedroom, foyer and the living room. It’s a purply gray that we just never warmed to. We were itching to cover it with something that felt more lively and just a little more us.
We put a lot of thought (probably too much) into the paint color for the bedroom, and we decided to go with a beige that we pulled from the carpet.
We thought it would be nice and neutral, and make the room feel a little brighter and bigger (which it could definitely use). However, when we started to put the color we selected on the wall, it ended up looking more yellow than beige. We continued on painting hoping it would be one of those, “It will dry darker” scenarios. We were wrong.
It’s yellow alright, and its not that we don’t like yellow. We definitely do. So much that we are now having deja vu when walking out of the bedroom into the dining area.
They are definitely pretty similar. But instead of re-painting the whole room, we decided see if we could make it work. So we put up some new airy white curtains, and added some color with teal lamps and a throw from Target. Then this amazing thing started to happen, it didn’t look so yellow anymore!
We added a few more accessories to the awesome mid-mod dresser we got on Craigslist. We also put up the newly shiny Chinese tray we restored.
We are still considering changing up the dining room color, but we don’t hate it. It makes the dining area flow nicely into the bedroom. Our bedroom now feels a little more like us. The walls are still a little bare, but overall I would say it’s an improvement, even if it isn’t beige.
