We have talked about the kitchen before and about how it’s not our favorite room. It’s a room we use everyday, but until we can save up enough moolah to replace the cabinets, tile, appliances, lighting, etc, we have to make small inexpensive changes that keep us happy.
So far, the items that can be checked off the temporary kitchen list:
Turning the pocket door into a chalkboard
Stripping the floors of wax
It was starting to look pretty decent in there considering we weren’t doing anything too crazy. What we already had done wasn’t so sacred that we will cry about later when the kitchen eventually gets an overhaul. We had one more item left on the temporary kitchen list though: the tile.
The tile in the kitchen is your standard white ceramic tile.
It was pretty boring, and over the years had gotten a little discolored. The grout wasn’t a bright white anymore and just looked dingy.
We wanted our kitchen to look clean, so thats where grout stain came in to save the day.
We purchased some grout stain in Delorean Gray from Home Depot, then it was back to defining the future of our tile.
This stuff was crazy easy to use. All it required was a toothbrush and lots of rags and/or paper towels.
We just dipped our old toothbrush into the stain and brushed it on the grout.
Then we wiped it off almost immediately.
That was it!
Really. It was that easy. The main thing was to work quickly and in small sections at a time. That way we didn’t ever leave the stain on for too long and stain the tile.
The end resulted in a higher contrast grout that makes the tile look whiter and the overall kitchen look cleaner.
Now for the before and after:
Have you done any little improvements lately?
