The last few weeks have been crazy busy. John and I have been slammed with our day jobs and lots of weekend traveling. Unfortunately, we haven’t had a ton of time to really finish off the master bedroom. At this point, it feels like a lingering project that will never get done and I hate that.
However, a few weeks ago we finally made some progress by getting around to replacing our fan. Pictured below is the one we had in there, and while it’s certainly not the ugliest fan we have seen, it didn’t really fit the modern aesthetic of our home.
John was particularly picky about the selection and purchase of the fan. He doesn’t love the fan in our living room that we purchased from Home Depot, while I like it just fine. I was perfectly content with using the same or a similar one in the bedroom, but he really wanted something special. So we hunted for weeks in stores and online for the perfect modern and affordable ceiling fan.
Finally, John found one that he loved called the “Cloud” made by The Modern Fan Co.
I agreed that it was a pretty cool fan, but we both weren’t fans (see what I did there?) of the $600 price tag. It was also a pendant type fan with a long down rod, and even though we could get a 4 inch rod, the fan would still sit about 18 inches off the ceiling over the bed. That just doesn’t work for 2 tall people.
So we started browsing through other fans made by the same company since we really liked the style of the first one. That’s when we stumbled across the Aurora.
We really liked how unique this fan was with the blades below the light. Have you ever seen that before? We hadn’t! This fan also comes in a “Hugger” model, which means that it mounts flush on the ceiling and only hangs down 12 inches.
We thought we had found THE fan until we checked out the price. It was nearly $600! Ugh, why did all the pretty ones have to be so expensive! So we took a break from the fan hunt for a few weeks, checking around the interwebs periodically for deals.
One day while perusing Amazon for deals, we saw the fan! And it was about half the price! We quickly jumped on it before it had a chance to go back up! The only caveat is that we had to order the remote control and receiver unit separately.
We had a few issues during installation with getting the screws to fit into their holes properly. We just had to open up one of the holes with a metal drill bit, and then it was good to go.
It has been a few weeks since we installed the new fan and we are still really happy with it. We were willing to spend a little more on this because it is in the center of the room, and at least for us tall folks is the first thing we see upon entering. It is a detail that ties the whole room together. It’s quiet, aurally and visually, which is what you really want in a bedroom. As long as it doesn’t fall down on us in the near future, I’d say it’s a job well done.
