One of the most important things in any room is the lighting, at least that’s how I feel. Maybe I’m extra sensitive to lights, but if there is a low lamp in a room that has a cold bulb in it, it just doesn’t feel right. So, as you may imagine, I have spent a fair amount of time working with the lights. Part of dealing with lots of lamps is wrangling the wires. And the final ingredient is proper control, so that using multiple lamps in opposite corners of the room is easy.
We recently replaced our ceiling fan in the bedroom, but the light that came with it is pretty harsh. It’s great if you really need to find something or wake up a stubborn sleeper, but other than that, it stays off.
What we wanted was more of a nice warm and mellow light in the bedroom. We did this by utilizing the 3 other lamps we have in the room. The lamps in the corners have the warm soft light from a super mellow show 20 watt bulb. The side lamp has a cooler 40 watt bulb to add a bit of functional light without being overbearing.
Changing out the light bulbs was no problem. Kid stuff really. (JJModern does not condone children replacing lightbulbs or any other electrical work.) The problem with having a lot of different lamps was that we now have a bunch of different wires. And in our case, we wired them all together, so we had the additional extension wires and power strips to deal with as well. Fortunately, somebody invented a magical product that is a union of velcro and tape.
The best part about this “magic tape” is that it is totally strong but easy to remove. So that means that if we change the configuration some day, we wont be damaging our beautiful new fauxdenza. So, with that and a few zip ties, and we easily bundled and hid all of the wires for the 3 lamps across the room all on one circuit.
But why have them all on one circuit? well I’m glad you asked. Because I wanted to run them all to a power strip, and the power strip through a remote control socket. Specifically a Watts Clever remote control socket.
This baby lets us control all 3 lamps together and/or independently with the press of a button. Watch it go from dark to cold to nice and warm.
Oooh…. Ahhhhh. It’s super convenient and really makes it feel all warm and cozy up in here.
