This has been what you would call a “rebuilding week” here at our house. We have a few projects in progress and none that are actually complete. But we didn’t want a week to pass without filling you in.
Most recently we have been focusing on the front yard. It is the first thing that people see when they arrive, and with those giant windows we always see it from inside.
This past weekend, I weeded the front garden that was majorly overgrown (as you can see above) and even started to push back the ivy with the line trimmer. While I feel like I made some progress, all I really did was make it prettier, sort of. The ivy leaves may be gone, but the evil roots are still there.
John was actually productive and repotted several of our indoor plants that weren’t very happy. He also transplanted the sage, thyme, basil, and the massive rosemary bush from the garden into pots.
We still haven’t moved the lavender plant that is almost as large as the rosemary. We aren’t quite sure what to do with it yet, as we don’t use it in cooking. I’m sure we will find a new home for it somewhere.
In addition to clearing the yard, we are are planning on painting the exterior of the house in the spring. But to tide us over until then, we are going to strip and paint the front door. While the existing teal color is ok, we want something a little bolder. I photoshopped a few options in yellow, blue, green and red-orange.
We really love that mid century red-orange, and think it will look good with the current gray color of the house and also the darker gray we plan on painting it in the spring. We hope it will turn out something like this. Here are the three reds we are currently trying out.
John and I aren’t sure that any of these colors are right. The top seems to have the right balance of red and orange but its a little too dark. The middle is definitely more on the red side, and the bottom is currently winning, but it still might be too orange. These are only based on the selection at Home Depot, which is usually our go-to for all of our house paint. We may have to venture out to an actual paint store for this one though.
What are you working in right now? Are you in the middle of several projects or are you kicking butt and crossing items off your list?
