We have been on a front entrance kick lately. Now that the door has been painted, the screen has been fixed and everything has been fully cleaned, we are ready to move onto brighter things. Specifically, the light next to the front door.
This light has been on the list to be replace since the day we moved in. It’s way too small, it has this weird faux oxidized copper green effect that we just weren’t feelin’, and most importantly it was mounted entirely too high.
About a year ago, we stumbled across this beauty on west elm’s website.
It is a mid century styled modern glass globe sconce. The best part is that since it hangs, we could mount it up there where the old light was sitting. It would give the visual that our light mounted in the correct place.
We were totally smitten. However, we didn’t buy it. We kept putting it off until a more convenient time. When we finally felt like the time was right, it was too late. They weren’t for sale anymore, and just so they could truly torture us, west elm still featured the item on the site. NOT COOL…NOT COOL.
Spring and summer past, and we couldn’t find anything we liked as much as that light. Anything that came close was too expensive. Modern can equal expensive, and that’s a bummer. So we stopped thinking about it, and moved on to our plans for the front door.
September rolled around, and I found myself randomly perusing the west elm site again, and there it was! Same price and everything, the only catch was that it was backordered until December. I ordered it immediately.
It finally came about a month ago, but due lots of rainy winter weather, we weren’t able to get around to it until recently. But boy, the wait was it worth it. We even added a little flair to that side of the door by handing a metal flower that I made in college.
We really like the way it came out. It’s a small change with a noticeable impact on the appearance of the front entryway, and something we can appreciate every day. This, in conjunction with all of the other little changes to the front of the house, really seems to add some curb appeal that we didn’t have before.
