It's official, we have finally been home owners for a whole year and we couldn't be more happy with our decision! We made it through all of our projects without killing each other, and the house is still standing. The inside is finally feeling like our home. We still have so much to do, and we like it that way. We wouldn't want to finish all the projects in one year. What would be the fun in that?
The first time we took a tour of what is now our house, it was unoccupied. The former owners paid to have it staged with furniture that was not so much our taste. Of course we knew we weren’t buying the furniture, so it didn’t really matter.
The side tables in our bedroom have been a bit difficult to place. At first, they wouldn’t fit where we had the bed, so we moved the bed and changed the layout of the room. The tables then sat on a wall under the window with an uneven floor. We shimmed them, which worked fine, but they still took up way to much floor space and we also just started using them to store random stuff. You can see in this post that
We have discussed the paint color in our house before, and how it really just isn’t our jam. I am beginning to think we look crazy. So for demonstration purposes, lets just pretend the living room looked like this: See…Now we don’t look nuts. Right? Maybe not. Ok an
This sweet little furry baby is the newest addition to the family! His name is Harvey, he is an 8 month old Border Collie mix. We rescued him from the local Animal Protection Society (aka the pound.) We were told that he was surrendered to them, and we can’t believe that anyone would give him up! Not only is he adorable and super smart, he is well behaved and doesn’t have a case of the crazies like most 8 mont
So here is where we left off. The only obstacles in our way were the mirror and leftover sink frame. It all seemed easy enough. Pop off the mirror, remove the little wooden chunks, go out and dance the night away in celebration of our swift success. I wish this was the story I could honestly tell. What actually happened was far more frustrating and dance-less.
So this is it. We did it. We bought a house. We decided, as home buying virgins, to not use a realtor. Smart huh? It took about 3 months from offer to move in, and we were clueless the whole time, but we made it through. Were we crazy to go it alone? Maybe.
